 Overview of Responsibilities Audit Associates are assigned as Team Members on a variety of diversified accounting and auditing assignments, under the supervision of more-experienced professionals. Performance is judged based on the quality of work, application of accounting knowledge, and ability to manage time effectively and efficiently. The Associate is expected to demonstrate familiarity with relevant accounting and auditing pronouncements and Firm policies and procedures. He or she should be able to identify issues and bring them to the attention of the ICA.  As the Associate gains experience, he or she may be assigned to ICA (In-Charge Accountant) roles and/or to review and supervise less-experienced team members’ work. As a representative of the Firm, an Associate must display professional conduct at all times, showing confidence and ease in the presence of staff and client representatives. Audit teams perform most of their work in the field, on the clients’ premises. Travel may be required for varying periods of time. Overtime is required, as necessary to complete assignments. Driving may be required in connection with off-island engagements (subject to composition of the team and rental car companies’ age limits).   Specific Responsibilities Engagement Planning.·      Gain an understanding of the clients’ business and industry through: o  review of prior year information (if available) prior to attending the pre-engagement or planning meeting; o  active participation in pre-engagement team meetings, and o  review of audit guides and other reference materials ·      Experienced associates may coordinate with the engagement manager to develop the audit strategy and prepare audit planning documents, including detailed budgets and work assignments. Fieldwork.·      Demonstrate a working understanding of Firm software and policies and procedures·      Complete assigned work in a timely and efficient manner, seeking guidance as appropriate·      Review budget for assigned sections and actively monitor progress against budgeted time. If overruns are anticipated, they should be brought to the attention of the ICA as soon as possible.·      Demonstrate basic understanding of applicable accounting pronouncements·      Demonstrate a basic understanding of various technical reference materials and apply appropriately·      Identify issues in assigned areas and bring to the attention of the ICA. Begin to develop proposed solutions·      Demonstrate basic auditing skills, including account reconciliation, calculations, and analytical procedures·      Perform other accounting, auditing, tax and consulting duties as needed and as assigned by supervisory personnel·      Experienced associates may be required to perform all phases of an engagement, including report writing, staff supervision, and engagement administrative tasks·      Begin to develop suggestions to improve the client’s systems and operations·      Take full responsibility for assigned areas: Complete all areas prior to the conclusion of fieldwork, or make arrangements with the ICA or Manager for subsequent completion of open items Essential Functions, Skills, Attributes·      Solid accounting technical foundation;  demonstrate competency in technical skills, work quality, and application of professional and firm standards·      Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English (written and verbal communication)·      Strong interpersonal skills – able to interact comfortably with staff , clients, and managers ·      Begin to develop supervisory and coaching skills·      Good problem-solving and time-management skills·      A continuous-learning mentality: accept and learn from constructive feedback, participate in appropriate professional training sessions, keep current with relevant industry information·      Ability to work well under pressure in order to meet deadlines·      Flexibility – demonstrate an ability to adapt quickly and appropriately to rapidly changing circumstances  Educational Requirements:Bachelors or masters degree in accounting, or related major with strong accounting concentration. Must have earned 150 semester credits and meet all other educational requirements for CPA licensing.  Required Licenses, Certificates or Knowledge:·      Hold a current and valid certified public accountant’s license, or be working towards obtaining the license by taking and passing the state CPA exam·      If licensed, be a member in good standing with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA)·      Proficient in the use of computers and computer accounting and auditing software programs, as well as word processing and spreadsheet applications
