The Area Health Education Center (AHEC) has partnered up with local non-profits to provide a program geared toward MPH, MSW, and Bachelors (must be enrolled in a health related field and must be in the first semester of your junior year), level students that want to gain experience in community health. AHEC requires a minimum of 40 hours for in-person/online training and minimum of 40 hours of experiential training per year for a total of 160 hours.
The program provides a small stipend each year that can range from $250-$1000 depending on available funds.
The in-person training is held once a month typically on Fridays. Experiential training is completed at one of our member clinics located within LA County. 40 hours per year is the minimum of hours that can be completed. However, students are encouraged to use their placement to fulfill their program internship requirements. This is tentative due to COVID-19.
