The Marin County Human Resources Department and the Department of Child Support Services are announcing a recruitment for the position of Child Support Officer I (CSO).
Initially, with direct and detailed supervision, the incumbent in this position will perform a range of child support duties, including conducting interviews with custodial and non-custodial parents, explaining and updating financials, preparing cases for hearings, and obtaining appropriate judgments. Incumbents may progress to Child Support Officer II after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency which meets the qualifications for the higher class.
The Highly Qualified Candidate: The ideal candidate has extensive experience with interviewing, collecting client information, writing detailed reports and preparing evidence for presentation in court or administrative hearings. They understand relevant federal and state regulations governing child support programs and can meet the challenges of maintaining a busy caseload. A strong service orientation and the ability to exercise professionalism and utilize tact with clients in situations where relations may be strained are also highly desirable.

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the knowledge and skills listed. Typically, equivalent to one year of full-time interviewing experience involving substantial contact with clients as in legal or credit research, collections, insurance adjusting, financial underwriting, or eligibility determination for welfare.
