The Public Assistance Branch:
Public Assistance (PA) proudly serves as the community’s gateway to benefit programs. As one of the largest units in H&HS, our 140+ member team serves 45,000 Marin County residents access programs that support their health, well-being, safety, and self-sufficiency. Public Assistance staff determine eligibility and provide related services for the following programs: Medi-Cal, CalFresh, CalWORKs, Affordable Care Act, County Medical Services Program, Foster Care Eligibility, Adoptions Assistance, and Kin-GAP. We provide a high level of service through a variety of channels: in person, by phone, and online. PA works collaboratively with other county units and community organizations to continuously improve our service and reach clients who may have challenges accessing benefit programs.
ABOUT THE POSITION
Under general supervision, persons in this position determine initial and continuing eligibility for public assistance benefit programs including Medi-Cal, CalFresh and CalWORKs. Duties include gathering personal information from applicants and beneficiaries through face-to-face interviews, telephone contact, and mailed correspondence, as well as entering the information gathered into a computer system used to determine program eligibility. Persons in this position must also learn, interpret and apply relevant rules, regulations and procedures. Persons will identify client needs and make appropriate referrals for health, social and/or employment services. Eligibility Workers may process initial applications, monitor and administer an assigned workload, and perform other specialized work as assigned.
One year of experience comparable to the Eligibility Worker I class and successful completion of the equivalent to the County of Marin’s Eligibility Worker I training program which will have provided the knowledge and abilities listed below.
