Paraeducators Special Education Mild Moderate – Severe
Monday thru Friday. Off holidays, summer, spring break, etc.
Pay depends on level of experience and ranges from $15.90 – $19.35/ hour
Please note: There are three (3) different levels of paraeducator support within our Special Education Department, which are outlined below. Please consider applying for all which you feel qualified for. Be sure to respond to the set of supplemental questions on each application you submit.
Paraeducator Special Education I: (non-severe) These positions are assigned to our mild-moderate classes. you may be working with small groups of students in a special education classroom or assisting students in a general education classroom. Other districts may refer to these as “Pull out/ Push in programs”, “Resource” or “Learning Center”.
Paraeducator Special Education II: (Severe) These positions are assigned to two different types of classrooms. Students may have more severe disabilities which require support with physical care needs (i.e. eating, toileting, etc) OR be placed in an IBI (Intensive Behavior Intervention) classroom, which contains students with impulsive or other behavioral difficulties.
Paraeducator Special Education SCSB: (Autism) This classification has branched off from the IA Special Education II classification and stands for Structured Communication Social Behavior. Most of these students display characteristics of Autism and may have any combination of the behaviors or physical difficulties described in the prior classification. You may be assisting students with physical care needs, providing proper behavior modeling or performing a combination of both.
General Duties: Under the supervision of a site administrator and daily work direction of a credentialed teacher (s), provides instructional assistance to students, individually or in groups, with non severe to severe and, often, multiple physical, emotional, behavioral, cognitive, learning and/or communication disabilities in a variety of educational environments which may include specific classrooms, learning centers, home settings, and/or other instructional facilities; assists in the supervision of students in the classroom or during play; assists students with their physical care needs, including some specialized care procedures; relieves the teacher of routine clerical duties, and performs other related duties as assigned.
Possession of a secondary school diploma or its recognized equivalent and one of the following:
1) completion of at least two years of study (minimum 48 semester hours) at an institution of
2) possession of an associate’s (or higher) degree;
or 3) passing a rigorous assessment that demonstrates the knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics at a level meeting State and Federal requirements.
Experience as an instructional assistant in a school district or equivalent paid or volunteer experience working with children with learning and/or physical disabilities.
