The School of Education (SOE) at Mills College has a long history of commitment to the community’s children. In 1926, Mills became the first college west of the Mississippi to open a Children’s Laboratory School and continues to offer a wide range of undergraduate and graduate academic programs and certifications in educator preparation, leadership, and related fields. Currently, the School of Education maintains important collaborative arrangements with neighboring school districts, including Oakland Unified School District and hosts a range of grants-funded programming centered on closing the opportunity gap for diverse youth and inquiry-based work with educators to deepen and extend their teaching practice in a range of settings.
EDUC 154/254 – Medical Information, Children in Hospitals and Clinics
The Child Life Program in the School of Education at Mills College is pleased to announce an opportunity for an instructor to teach EDUC 154/254 – Medical Information, Children in Hospitals and Clinics
Medical and physiological details of the chronic and acute illnesses for which children are hospitalized, as well as the attendant diagnostic and treatment procedures, defined and discussed with a view toward better understanding the impact of the experiences on children.
For faculty new to Mills, compensation is $6,000 per course without a terminal degree and $6,500 per course with a terminal degree. Adjunct compensation is governed by a collective bargaining agreement and increases with seniority at Mills College.
Minimum Qualifications are a Master’s Degree in Education or an associated field. Terminal degree in Teacher Education or an associated field preferred.
Experience working with children and their families in hospital and pediatric clinical settings Experience in community and/or school settings working with professionals and families in these areas. Preferred applicant is a medical professional.
This is an exempt, part-time position. The compensation includes state-mandated benefits including Social Security, State Disability Insurance, Workers’ Compensation Insurance, Unemployment Insurance and Sick Day accrual. Employees also receive free admission to campus events, use of the pool, fitness center, and tennis courts.
