OCDE’s Administrative Services Division is looking for a talented and enthusiastic individual to serve as Project Accountant for the Fiscal Services Unit. The selected candidate will act as liaison between OCDE and federal, state, and local agencies, and school districts regarding designated and specialized reporting procedures, policies, and guidelines. The incumbent will provide technical assistance and advice to program and OCDE staff regarding financial reports required by federal, state, and local entities, as well as other required financial reporting functions and monitoring timelines, verifying accuracy, certification, and submitting reports to government agencies.
The Project Accountant will perform specialized, highly responsible accounting, and budget functions to support a variety of grant-funded and categorical programs and other OCDE functions including position control to ensure expenditures are in compliance with applicable budgets budgets and all legal and funding source requirements. The incumbent will prepare financial reports for and billing invoices to school districts, Department of Health Services, and OCDE. The Project Accountant will create single and multi-year projected budgets to be used in the application process for various programs and participates in initial project planning and budget set-up and assists managers in determining specific needs for grants and entitlements to maximize return for OCDE. They will develop and maintain spreadsheets and databases to document and verify expenditures, receipts, accruals, and deferred revenue.
Requirements / Qualifications
Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
• Associate’s degree or course work in accounting or a closely related field.
• Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, at least one which involved a project or grant fund accounting. Experience in an educational institution or public agency is especially desired.
