In this role you will have broad project responsibilities to co-create and influence the strategic direction of the research work to be done! You will initiate, lead, and still perform hands-on technology/capability/method development in order to deliver key technical initiatives, and can direct the Data & Modeling Sciences technical work of others and lead cross-Job Family teams as needed.
You will support the Beauty cross category innovation program’s key technical challenges with a mix of models and mode based experiments. You will be expected to take ownership of overall learning plans to both obtain the data needed for model development and the validation and execution of the models in partnership with Product Development, analytical and other partners. You will provide insights by combining deep technical models and learning from the scientific literature with practical lab experiments.
Develop physico-chemical models to enable new material and product innovation to meet P&G Beauty goals across an array of personal care product categories. The complexity of the models will have to be appropriate to the problem to be solved, and such that it can guide product development programs. Towards this, the individual will be responsible for validating the models with physical experimentation. Examples of models include understanding phase behavior, rheology and processability. The interaction of products with biological tissues (skin, hair, microbes) is also a large focus area.
We are looking for someone with a PhD in Chemical, Soft Matter Physics, Biophysics, Physical Chemistry or related fields with a strong publication record.
• A strong background in thermodynamics, statistical physics, soft-matter physics, complex fluids, rheology, colloid science and related areas. Experience with modeling at the scale of continuum mechanics is a plus.
• A track record of developing models at different scales/levels of complexity (e.g., microscopic atomistic models to analytical (pen/paper) models to phenomenological semi-empirical models).
• Strong coding experience and knowledge of coding best practices (e.g., GitHub) to develop sustainable code-bases are a plus.
• Interest and experience in integrating physics-based models with model AI approaches (machine learning/Bayeisan modeling) etc is a plus.
• Interest to both develop models and be responsible for their validation/parametrization with hands-on-experimentation and prototyping. Hands on wet-lab experience is a plus.
