POSITION TITLE: Research Assistant II
The Wilson laboratory is seeking a motivated and experienced research assistant to support protein production, purification, and characterization for structural and biophysical studies. Work includes performing a variety of tasks including basic microbiology technics, tissue culture, buffer preparation, biochemical assays and operation of standard lab equipment of moderate complexity, with a particular focus on production of recombinant proteins in bacteria, yeast, baculovirus-insect and/or mammalian expression systems. The research assistant will work within a highly experienced team of research staff in collaboration with the research scientists in the lab on a variety of research projects. May provide interpretation and initial analysis of results; investigate, troubleshooting and modify methods and procedures; assist in designing experiments; and perform other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required.
This position works in a laboratory environment. Further details of the physical requirements of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.
Requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been attained.
Requires 3-5 years of experience. Candidates possessing a master’s degree, 2+ years’ experience required.
A strong background in molecular biology, cell biology, virology, or immunology.
Ability to plan, conduct and analyze complex experiments under guidance in a highly collaborative environment, and interested in acquiring new skills and techniques.
Prior experience in protein production and biophysical characterization is a plus.
Should have very good communication skills.
COMPENSATION: Salary is commensurate with experience.
