Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The position of Program Coordinator – Part Time with the Center for Organ Recovery & Education (CORE) is one of moderate responsibility. The Program Coordinator – Part Time is responsible for coordinating educational outreach programs, special projects, and communication efforts designed to promote CORE throughout the region and increase public awareness of and commitment to organ and tissue donation and transplantation. He/she will work to ensure that all programs, activities, and communication tools demonstrate internal and external support for COREs mission and image.

He/she will have the ability to develop, implement and deliver educational programs, special events, and communication tools that target COREs audiences, positively predispose the public to COREs key messages and result in increased awareness and consent. He/she will have the ability to travel throughout COREs service area including Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Chemung County, New York and work weekends and evenings. He/she must be able to demonstrate organizational skills, effective use of time/project management and ability to meet deadlines. Solid oral and written communication skills are required, as is the ability to meet deadlines. Excellent interpersonal skills are required to work with diverse audiences, including volunteers, community partners, students, transplant recipients, transplant candidates and donor families. A commitment to COREs mission and ability to represent the organization in a positive manner will lend itself to the ability to fulfill the requirements of the position.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

The Program Coordinator – Part Time reports directly to COREs Director of Public Affairs and Donor Family Services. He/she will initiate contacts, as well as respond to inquiries, for programs and opportunities to advance COREs mission. The Program Coordinator – Part Time will cultivate new and sustain current public education opportunities/partnerships, and deliver presentations to volunteers, schools, corporations, places of worship and civic organizations, as well as to other agencies or entities as necessary, and proactively assist in developing special events. The Program Coordinator – Part Time also will assist in arranging special events, including COREs annual donor recognition, National Donate Life Month and National Donor Sabbath. He/she will develop and implement tools to measure and evaluate effectiveness of programs, projects, materials and activities and outcome related to the goals of COREs Community Outreach department. He/she will attend designated meetings with community groups, volunteers, health care professionals and other key meetings as requested. He/she may be assigned other job-related functions by the Director of Public Affairs and Donor Family Services and/or COREs President/CEO, such as developing communications measurements and/or other related activities within the Community Outreach departments. He/she will work closely with the

Director of Public Affairs and Donor Family Services, other members of the Community Outreach department, and contribute as a member of COREs team. He/she will demonstrate support of donation and COREs mission.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

The position of Program Coordinator – Part Time requires that the incumbent have a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or other related field, with experience in communications, or public relations preferably with social-cause marketing or health-care background. In lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree, incumbent must have a minimum of five years of experience in communications, public relations, marketing or other relevant field. Strong written and oral communications skills as well as project management experience are highly desirable. He/She should demonstrate strong analytical, creative, organizational and interpersonal skills. Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to lift educational materials weighing 30 lbs., carry and set up displays, sit/stand for long periods of time and be available for some overnight stays of related CORE business. He/she must be willing to travel throughout the service area and be available for some evening and weekend work. He/She must have the ability to work in a sometimes hectic office environment. He/She should have sound judgment and be able to get along with all types of individuals. He/She must have demonstrated professional commitment. He/she must demonstrate a commitment to CORE’s mission and administrative philosophy, a strong work ethic and a commitment to the overall organ, tissue, and eye donation program.

DEGREE OF JOB DIFFICULTY

The degree of difficulty for the Program Coordinator – Part Time falls into the moderate to considerable range considering the responsibilities to represent CORE to the public, volunteers and community partners is great. Mistakes and misinformation could trigger a variety of misconceptions about donation and cause serious administrative problems for CORE, all of which may negatively influence donation and working relationships with community and hospital partners and our public.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $14.00 – $21.00 per hour
