Benefits of Teaching in Baltimore
Trusted Program. For twenty years, the Baltimore City Teaching Residency has prepared more than 2,100 teachers who have helped transform City schools. Principals and district officials appreciate Residents’ talent and trust they will continue playing a key role in ensuring that Baltimore students catch up to their peers.
Classroom-Centered Preparation: Resident support is radically simple: focused practice on key skills, knowledge, and cultural mindsets to get new teachers off to a strong start. Where traditional teacher preparation leaves little time for hands-on skill-building, our innovative preparation is centered around actual teaching experience and focused practice on core skills, such as reflecting on students’ values, experiences, and ambitions to create opportunities for students to see themselves in challenging content that will prepare them for success.
Certification that Counts: We hold high standards for licensure. Throughout your first year in the classroom, we carefully assess and support your growth, with expert coaching and personalized support. Residents are recognized not simply as certified teachers, but as having a proven track record of classroom success.
Full Salary and Benefits: While pursuing certification, Residents work as full-time teachers in the Baltimore City Public Schools district and earn a full teacher’s salary plus comprehensive benefits. Once hired, you will be a full-time employee of Baltimore City Public Schools and will earn the same starting salary as any other first-year teacher.
