Who We Are
Teach Minnesota is one of the state’s first alternative routes to teaching certification and trains diverse, effective teachers and individuals with or without teaching certification, who are dedicated to fighting educational injustice and helping students reach their goals—in the classroom and in life. Through Teach Minnesota you will elevate your academic and professional expertise into a high-impact career as a certified teacher in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area.
Who Our Students Need
Teach Minnesota is launching in 2021 for its first class of Residents to be placed in classrooms starting the 2022-2023 school year. With a cohort of 50 Fellows in Year 1, scaling to 100 by Year 3, and a commitment to at least 50% candidates of color each year, Teach Minnesota has the capacity to shift the landscape of diverse educators in the Twin Cities by at least 10% over 5 years.
Our teachers come from many walks of life, but most come from other careers; they are all committed to ending the injustice of educational inequity. We welcome graduating seniors, recent college graduates and career changers. You may have built a successful career, and now wish to use those skills to impact our next generation. You could be a recent graduate who wants to share your passion for learning with Minnesota’s students. Whatever your background, you have high expectations for all students and are deeply invested in ensuring all students have access to the education they deserve. Formal classroom experience is not required.
We are currently seeking outstanding candidates to teach Elementary Education and K-12 Special Education.
Benefits of Teaching in Minnesota
Flexible Teaching Locations: We partner with a diverse set of districts, charter partners, single charter schools and parochial schools and Residents have unique flexibility to find a school that fits their skills and interests.
Classroom-Centered Preparation: Resident support is radically simple: focused practice on key skills, knowledge, and mindsets to get new teachers off to a strong start. Where traditional teacher preparation leaves little time for hands-on skill-building, our innovative support is centered around actual teaching experience and focused practice on core skills, such as reflecting on students’ values, experiences, and ambitions to create opportunities for students to see themselves in challenging content that will prepare them for success.
Certification that Counts: We hold high standards for certification of any program in the country. Residents are recognized not simply as certified teachers, but as having a proven track record of classroom success.
Full Salary and Benefits: While pursuing certification, Residents work full-time at a district or charter school on a Tier 2 license and will earn the same starting salary plus comprehensive benefits as a first-year teacher. You will start as the teacher of record for the 2022-23 school year.
