Student Job Description
Position Title: STUDENT LAB ASSISTANT
The Torres lab requires a student worker to aid in the investigation of how a bioactive lipid promotes immune tolerance in the liver. The requirements expected of this student worker will include a strong interest for, and enthusiasm in, liver immunity, having taken a graduate level Immunology course and willingness to analyze large data sets. Initial duties will include handling and manipulating mice, in vitro cell culture, molecular biology and flow cytometric analyses, data entry and common lab chores. Because this will require significant energy from senior lab personnel in training it is also expected the student be able to commit ~20 hours/week.
All requirements for graduation from an accredited college or university with a B.A. or B.S. in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Immunology or a related field in the biomedical sciences must be completed before the starting date for this position. Motivation to learn, flexibility to adapt, reliability to be on time, and cooperativity to do science in a team-based atmosphere. Familiarity with aseptic technique, molarity, pH, following protocols, and recording data preferred.
