The Department of Performing Arts at the University of San Francisco invites applications to teach THTR 210 Costume Design, a one-semester, 2-unit course in the Performing arts and Social Justice Major and part of the Tech and Design Certificate program for fall semester 2021. This position seeks candidates from the field of costume design for performance.
Full Job Description:
Applicants should be prepared to teach undergraduates:
• History and social contexts of the field of costume design
• Script and character analysis
• Measurement and fittings
• Costume breakdowns for dance, theater, and music
• Sketching, drawing and rendering
• Stitching and use of sewing machines
• Budgeting and time management
• Wardrobe management and dressing for live performances
• Portfolio building preparatory steps toward a job in live performance or film costume design
Minimum Qualifications: The University of San Francisco is seeking a seasoned costume designer with at least five years of recent production experience who is prepared to teach undergraduate students with a wide range of interests and skill levels. Recent experience in multimedia reporting, writing and photojournalism for various formats would be particularly attractive. A minimum of a master’s degree in performing arts, design, or equivalent experience must be completed by August 2021. The program expects to see evidence of the candidate’s engagement in diversity and inclusion through their production work, teaching and professional service. Experience teaching at the university level and an understanding of and commitment to support social justice and the mission of the University of San Francisco are required.
