With that in mind,
Picture yourself helping to ensure regionally-based restoration and protection programs are meeting strategic objectives and are receiving support from the agency to meet our mutually shared goals.
With your experience, you will help WDFW programs be fiscally accountable for their funding and assist them in coordinating within the agency and with other local, state, and federal processes on significant policy initiatives and other activities.
In this dynamic role, you will assist with the development of outreach materials related to the Regional Fishery Enhancement Group (RFEG) and the Regional Fisheries Coalition (RFC) messaging, activities, and accomplishments.
The optimal applicant has strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal/written communications skills – including the ability to present complex or controversial information in a way that is understandable and non-confrontational.

Our Restoration Coordinator,
Provides policy and organizational support for the Regional Fishery Enhancement Group (RFEG) – tasks include but are not limited to:
- Works with appropriate agency staff and the Regional Fisheries Coalition (RFC) President, Manager, and other RFEG Executive Directors as needed to develop the agenda and understand when appropriate to include legislative affairs team or Program Director in policy and legislative issue.
- Serves as primary liaison for WDFW at quarterly RFEG Coalition meetings, including participation in discussion on new policy initiatives, new directions for existing policy, and policy level coordination that fall under RCW 77.85 Salmon Recovery.
- Coordinates internal and external meetings on specific RFEG-related topics as needed, and between individual RFEGs and agency staff – lead the meetings and prepare necessary materials as appropriate.
- Develops funding requests, planning processes, and policy directions for support of the RFEGs.
- Analyzes and respond to proposed federal salmon recovery policy as it relates to distribution of funding and other relevant issues for the RFEGs.
- Work with the RFEG policy contractor to review policies and work with WDFW staff to respond to policy issues.
Provides organizational support for the Marine Resource Committees (MRC) organizations – tasks include but are not limited to:
- Work with appropriate agency staff and the Marine Resource Committees (MRC) leads as needed to coordinate on WDFW participation in MRC meetings and understand when appropriate to include legislative affairs team or Program Director in policy and legislative issues.
- Serves as primary liaison for WDFW at MRC meetings, including participation in discussion on new policy initiatives, new directions for existing policy, and policy level coordination as related to RCW 77 and intersections between land use and salmon recovery.
- Aids MRCs in developing contracts with and invoicing the agency for MRC funds – develops funding requests, planning processes, and policy directions for support of the MRCs.
- Represents WDFW on multi-agency or multi-stakeholder work groups convened to address local, state, or federal coastal management planning or policy issues.
- Analyze and respond to proposed federal coastal legislation or changes to coastal policy.
Work Setting, including hazards:
- Work is performed almost exclusively indoors in an office environment.
- This position is currently part-time and typically works 28 hours per week.
- Workload demands may require work outside the assigned work hours and adjustment of work schedules.
- Occasional travel to meetings with partners along the coast or across the state to conduct related business or to attend/provide trainings.
- Frequent contact with clients, including those who may be frustrated.
Bachelor’s degree in one of the following:
- Natural Resource.
- Environmental Science.
- Environmental Planning.
- Public Administration with an environmental emphasis.
- Public Policy with an environmental emphasis.
- Other closely-related field.
Three (3) years of professional experience in one or more of the following:
- Natural Resources.
- Environmental Science.
- Environmental Planning.
- Public Administration.
- Environmental Policy.
- Other closely-related experience.
- One (1) year of experience as an Environmental Planner 3, or a closely allied field.
- Professional equivalent experience may substitute, year for year, for the education requirement.
- Approximately two (2) years of the above required experience needs to include using advanced principles of management – such as strategic planning, developing and monitoring budgets, contract negotiation, program/project management, and/or conflict resolution.
Demonstrated experience and strong competence in the following:
- Leading and facilitating an interdisciplinary team or work groups to achieve desired and productive outcomes.
- Managing multiple work assignments and priorities on varied time scales.
- Demonstrated organization and time management skills to effectively prioritize workload and maximize efficiency.
- Ability to seek and act on opportunities to improve, streamline, and re-invent work processes.
- Basic use of Microsoft Office programs (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- A Master’s degree in natural resource or environmental science, natural resource or environmental planning, or public administration or public policy with an environmental emphasis, or a closely related field.
- An additional three (3) years of experience in natural resource or environmental science, natural resource or environmental planning, or public administration or public policy with an environmental emphasis, or closely related experience.
- One (1) year of experience as an Environmental Planner 3.
- Experience applying knowledge of fish and wildlife biology, habitat science, and ecology to anticipate fish, wildlife, and habitat needs, potential impacts, and likely remedies.
- Knowledge of natural resource laws, policies, and programs, and how these affect and/or enable fish, wildlife, and habitat conservation in Washington State, and the ability to interpret and apply them in order to achieve expected results.
