Do you have a passion for conservation? Looking to gain experience working with animals while making a difference in the world? This internship is for you!
At Zovargo, you’ll quickly be in front of a crowd gaining experience and getting trained on animal handling, husbandry, and conservation presentation techniques in working with various audiences. You’ll learn how to deliver engaging animal programs that inspire future generations!
This Internship working with animals is open to applicants located in San Diego, Ca only.
The internship will provide college credit wherever applicable as this is not a paid program.
Mentors with 20+ years of experience will guide you through this supportive professional development program where you’ll gain skills in public speaking, conservation education program delivery, exotic animal handling and husbandry!
Qualifications / Required Skills
- Must be 18, have your own vehicle, be the registered owner, and have a driver license.
- Must have means to accommodate gas expense. Travel is a requirement in this position.
- Must have a smart phone and be able to navigate successfully to events.
- Must be able to dedicate six months of time to the internship and be available to the minimum commitment of one program per week.
- Should have experience speaking in front of audiences.
- Should have experience handling animals.
- Should have experience working with children/youth.
Responsibilities / Learning Objectives
- Dedicate 5-15 hours a week. This includes self-study time, supporting education programs, training, and completing animal care shifts 1x a month.
- Learn how to deliver engaging, interactive, educational programs to audiences of all ages.
- Learn how to provide education programs as a team with other educators.
- Follow Animal Handling Protocols for Animal Ambassadors.
- Provide Animal Husbandry as a keeper.
- Abide by Code of Conduct and Animal Policies.
For safety, student interns will be supervised by Zovargo Staff.
