INTERN – CODE ENFORCEMENT

JOB DEFINITION: Under supervision, this position will assist in a variety of code enforcement related duties related to investigation of potential violations and the enforcement of municipal codes.
DUTIES:
- Assist with enforcing City codes, ordinances, laws, and regulations pertaining to code enforcement
- General office work including preparing data for input into computer programs and preparing notices and other types of correspondence
- Ability to prepare reports and logs of inspected properties and other violations
- Prepare clear and concise reports
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with employees and those contacted in the course of work.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Equivalent to High School graduation and some experience providing customer service and current enrollment in college or a university.
License and Certificates:
Possession of a CA Driver’s License and a good driving record.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Position may require prolonged sitting, standing, walking on uneven or slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, grasping and making repetitive hand movements in the performance of daily duties. Some lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 15 pounds may be required.
BACKGROUND AND INVESTIGATIONS: If applicable, Department of Justice and Department of Motor Vehicle background investigations will be conducted on the appointed candidate. Failure to pass any background process may be grounds for disqualification. If under age 18 and still in high school, applicants must be able to obtain a valid work permit.
RETIREMENT: Seasonal part-time employees are required to participate in the Deferred Compensation Plan (457b) at a rate of 7.75% which is deducted from the employee’s pay check. MEDICARE: Employees hired after April 1, 1986, will have 1/45% of their base salary deducted from their pay check to be paid to Medicare, as mandated by law. The City will match the 1.45%.
