Position Summary
Assist Xcel Energy engineers with Design and Construction Manual development. Assist Xcel Energy engineers with faulty material analysis and solution research. Review the new generation of Remote Faulted Circuit Indicators designed for increased functionality. Assist in addressing concerns brought by designers and construction crews—draft specifications for standard materials. Identify alternate sources for functionally equivalent material. Interns will be given the opportunity to explore individual areas of interest within the Electric Distribution Standards team.
This paid position is expected to last 3 months during the summer of 2024, with the potential to continue part-time into the fall and spring school year. During the summer, the intern is expected to work 40 hours/week and ideally 15-20 hours/week during the school year.
Essential Responsibilities
a) Create and edit specification sheets incorporating company and industry standards
b) Review materials for use in the Electric Distribution System
c) Research and write technical white papers for use by Electric Distribution Standards
d) Edit and add standard designs to the Electric Distribution Design and Construction manual
e) Analyze failed materials to determine the root cause of failure
f) Contribute to industry-accepted technical standards bodies such as ANSI and IEEE
g) Solicit feedback from construction crews on new materials and designs
Minimum Requirements
The ability to commute to the primary work location is required.
Must be, at minimum, a SOPHOMORE enrolled in an ABET-accredited college or university engineering program pursuing a degree in Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering. Recent graduates are not eligible unless they are pursuing graduate education.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Strong written and oral communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Windows 10 Operating System
Preferred Requirements
Coursework applicable to POWER SYSTEMS Analysis and Protection
Knowledge of HTML basics
Relevant Project Experience
Prior Intern/Engineering Experience
Engineer In Training Certification or successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam
