Ensure Your Child is on a Career Track

As a parent, you want to do everything you can to support your child, but it can be difficult to know where to begin.  Here are 7 easy questions you can throw into the conversation with your child to ensure they’re on track for a successful outcome post graduation:

  1. Have you visited the Office of Career & Professional Development?
  2. Are you getting involved in clubs or organizations to build up marketable skills?
  3. Have you applied for an internship?  Did you know that 80% of employers expect to see this on a résumé?
  4. Have you chatted with your advisor about your career interests and goals?
  5. Have you attended the Job & Internship Fair or Career Conference?
  6. Have you had your résumé and cover letter reviewed?
  7. How are you building your network? Have you created a profile on LinkedIn to find a mentor or conduct an informational interview?

By asking these key questions, you’ll begin a healthy conversation with your child around career, and perhaps plant a seed or two in the process. Have a specific question?
